CNN anchor Chris Cuomo is under siege for his overreaction to a heckler. Look, celebrities lose some of their privacy – goes with the job and while it is not fair Cumo knew that was the price.
He pursued it anyway. So for him to blow up and threaten a heckler is not acceptable, especially when it comes to light that he called himself Fredo in an old radio interview.
This is an interesting development and while CNN backs him for now, this could build into something as more hypocrisies are exposed.
From The New York Post: CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, who was captured on a viral video getting into a profanity-laced exchange with a person who called him “Fredo,” once referred to himself as the hapless “The Godfather” character in a radio interview.
Cuomo was interviewed by Curtis Sliwa on his AM 970 radio show in January 2010 about whether his brother Andrew might seek the democratic nomination for governor.
Sliwa said he dubbed the Cuomo family “la Cuomo nostra.”
“There is a group of people – politicos – who always hint they might run, but not necessarily plunge all the way, and they are members of la Cuomo.”
“Who am I then, Fredo?” Cuomo asked in response.
“Yes, exactly,” Sliwa said. “So you better be careful that your brother Andrew doesn’t kiss you on both cheeks and then all of a sudden they take you out on the middle of the lake and where’s Chris?”
“He kisses me plenty because he’s a great big brother,” Cuomo said.
Cuomo is on vacation – CNN says it was planned and they are staying by him but only time will tell if that remains true.
From Fox News: The man, who has been described on social media as a “Trump supporter,” repeatedly claimed he thought Cuomo’s name was “Fredo.” The anchor responded by calling him a “liar” and told him to “own what you said” and “stand up like a man.”
Then things quickly escalated when the CNN anchor suggested he would throw him “down these stairs.”
“I don’t want to have a problem with you, man,” the man repeated.
“You’re gonna have a f—in’ problem,” Cuomo said.
“What, what you gonna do about it?” the man asked.
“I’ll f—ing ruin your s—,” the “Cuomo Prime Time” anchor replied. “I’ll f—in throw you down these stairs like a f—in’ punk.”
“Please do,” the man said.
“So you can f—in’ sue?” Cuomo asked. “Then take a swing at me… You wanna call me ‘Fredo,’ take a f—in’ swing… I’m f—in’ right here. I’ll f—in’ wreck your s—.”
The video ends with multiple people attempting to separate the two men.
In a statement to Fox News, CNN said it fully supported its primetime anchor.
“Chris Cuomo defended himself when he was verbally attacked with the use of an ethnic slur in an orchestrated setup. We completely support him,” a CNN spokesperson told Fox News.
Cuomo just broke his silence and basically admitted he is a hypocrite: “Appreciate all the support but – truth is I should be better than the guys baiting me. This happens all the time these days. Often in front of my family. But there is a lesson: no need to add to the ugliness; I should be better than what I oppose.”
