Barack Obama is nervous and he should be. The Democrats underwhelming slate of primary candidates has the entire party in full panic mode.
Not one candidate has gained traction and none of them look capable of taking on Trump in what will be an absolutely brutal campaign.
How bad is it for the Democrats? Michael Bloomberg entered the race because he knows what they will not admit – none of the current candidates can beat President Trump.
Obama knows this all too well. Look, people forget Barack Obama ran the same anti-establishment campaign against Hillary as Trump did and both men crushed the entitled Hillary.
The rust belt knows what the Clinton’s did and they did not forget – and this will extend to Biden when Trump is done with him.
All of the other candidates have the same baggage and the voters will hold them to account.
Add to that the booming economy and you can see why party leaders like Obama are so nervous
“Everybody needs to chill out about the candidates, but gin up about the prospect of rallying behind whoever emerges from this process,” Barack said.
“There will be differences” between the candidates, Obama added, “but I want us to make sure that we keep in mind that, relative to the ultimate goal, which is to defeat a president and a party that has taken a sharp turn away from a lot of the core traditions and values and institutional commitments that built this country,” those differences are “relatively minor.”
“The field will narrow and there’s going to be one person, and if that is not your perfect candidate and there are certain aspects of what they say that you don’t agree with and you don’t find them completely inspiring the way you’d like, I don’t care,” he said.
“Because the choice is so stark and the stakes are so high that you cannot afford to be ambivalent in this race.”
