Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski just ended the Democrat’s impeachment dream while Adam Schiff was in the middle of his argument via a statement saying she will vote no on more witnesses.
She gave an odd statement saying the Democrats rushed a flawed impeachment and that there will be no fair trial in the Senate – a politician’s answer to the last.
Who cares, she is a no and that means, unless there is a miracle, the impeachment is over save for the last few boring speeches by Schiff.
Look, Schiff and Pelosi gambled with a rushed impeachment, they knew it at the time, and it backfired.
From Los Angeles Times:
Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski said Friday she will vote against subpoenaing witnesses in the impeachment trial of President Trump, likely dooming Democrats’ hopes of bringing in former national security advisor John Bolton in to testify.
“The House chose to send articles of impeachment that are rushed and flawed,” the Alaska senator said in a statement Friday.
“I carefully considered the need for additional witnesses and documents, to cure the shortcomings of its process, but ultimately decided that I will vote against considering motions to subpoena.”
She added that due to the partisan nature of the impeachment proceeding, she concluded that “there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed.”
Democrats need four Republicans to vote with them on the pivotal question of whether to subpoena witnesses in the trial.
But they appear to only have two unless another senator emerges before the vote, which is expected sometime Friday evening.
Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Mitt Romney of Utah said they would support the measure.
